Here I am as a teenager "launching" a two-stage rocket in our back yard. My brother Steve is observing.

The rocket, propeller by water, pumped up with air pressure, was a Christmas present, I suspect about 1958 when the competition between the USA and the USSR to orbit satellites (and later Astronauts) was intense.

The difficulties the USA had at the time highlighted its science and math educational weaknesses, leading to efforts to improve our schools.

Littlr did I know then that six years later I'd be employed by Grumman as an engineer on the Lunar Module program.
